I guess all the trains needed to go somewhere? Still, for it to be at the end of the line like this... I wonder where we are in the city?

Yeah, a central hub. But what do mysterious ancient trains that don't normally run even need with one...

[She stepped off the train, out into the platform.]

...And a bunch of shops?

I guess we'd assume it was open once! After all, even if it's been repaired as long as I've been here, that does mean it ran once... probably.

[ But hey, shopping spree. ]

[Eleanor sighed as she walked towards one of the stores, peering inside.]

But for all we know, none of this was even here a week ago.

[ . . . That's a weird thought, that's such a weird thought. But she does have to concede the possibility, based on some things other people have told her Retrospec can and has done. For her part, she's also glancing in the stories. A lot of them are dated, but there's some interesting stuff here. Honestly, she'd love to pick out some items and maybe take them back with her.

... God, back. How do we even get back from here. ]

It sounds odd to just set up some abandoned places like that.

It does, but...it's just as weird as thinking they somehow...preserved it for however many decades it's been down here.

[Eleanor hesitated, looking into the store.]

Some of this stuff is older than my mom.

... honestly, just as old as mine. Maybe older? This stuff does look like it's from the 1950s?

[ Which is kind of insane, that's like 70 years ago. ]

Yeah...But it looks new, too. [Nothing about this place made sense, which drove her nuts.]

If this is going to start involving other worlds and other times, I think I may just quit the whole damn idea.

[Not that she could. Or would. But still.]

Well, are space and time even that different if it's other worlds? Some of those worlds are probably in different times. Maybe this is current for someone's memory-world.

[ Even if that sounds... kinda stupid...

Mm. Yeah they are. Time isn't a place. It's a...I don't know. A concept? Just because it's a different year in two different worlds doesn't mean they aren't in the same 'time', because they could have started counting at different points. Or use completely different calendars.

[Eleanor was not great with temporal mechanics.]

Well what I meant is someone's world could resemble Earth in the 1950s... maybe? The furniture in the memory you had on the train looked a little dated, after all.

[ You know, apart from all the magic and stuff. ]

Sure, it absolutely could. But that doesn't mean they're in our 'past' you know?

[She was pretty sure that made sense, honestly.]

It was the 1950s there, I think. Or the 60s. I haven't found a date yet.

[ She's a studier of soft science, okay. But she sighs and shakes her head. Her own world that she was a princess in was... older still. Strange, and she can't place where it would be. ]
