This is the post where Tsubasa and Nachetanya have private threads leading up to Case 4/their deaths.

And you memory was only this conversation? Nothing before or after? A span of... thirty minutes, perhaps?

[ Nachetanya makes a brief grateful sound, but her eyes are now focused for details here. ]

It was pretty much the entirety of that meeting. Araragi-kun had to leave fairly abruptly, because he had urgent business with a colleague, so we dismissed early. The meeting itself couldn't have been longer than 20. And that's it.

Very mundane memory. Nothing particularly striking about it.

[nachetanya]

My own was also... well, I suppose not quite mundane, but the time period was somewhat longer, closer to five hours. When my memory left off, I had met with the other five Braves in Gwinvale. Once united, we had given each other basic introductions, especially for Hans, who was more unknown than the rest of us. The new memory picked off from that point - we went to border of the Wailing Demon Territory and prepared to cross the inlet into the region. Before we left, though, we met with Gwinvale's king - he and his army were gong to secure that point both to make sure fiends couldn't rush back in from the mainland and they couldn't rush out to do more damage while we were in.

The six of us then traveled through the hells and mountains of the inlet. The memory ended around the time we'd come to the Falling Blood Valley.

Hm, I see...well, that sounds like a viable strategy, on the part of the army. Use the border as a stronghold, to make sure you don't have any complications while you're in there...but I wonder if your next one will pick up where that left off, then? Assuming, of course, we have another tonight.

That Wailing Demon Territory really needs a more pleasant naming sense.

[nachetanya]

The Wailing Demon Territory's not actually mapped out very well other than by the accounts of the previous Six Braves or the stories told by the Saint of Six Flowers herself. [ She shrugs a little - wincing as her left shoulder moves ] So most of the named regions of it were either named by Byrne's account from seven hundred hundred years ago,stories by the survivors of the generation three hundred years ago, or by names which had been created by the people based on the Saint of Six Flowers's account, which Bryne tended to use.

[ She taps a finger on the table. ]

For example, the Falling Blood Valley is named such because that's where a particularly lengthy battle between the Saint of Six Flowers and the Evil God tired her out so much that even after she won, she vomited blood.

[halleberry]

[ What did she tell you about shrugging, honestly-- ]

...They couldn't have simply called it the Pyrrhic Valley?

[nachetanya]

[ Sorry, wife... ]

Honestly, that does sound like a nicer name. But it's not the one passed down.

[halleberry]

[ don't ]

It just sounds a bit morbid. Pyrrhic essentially conveys the same message, only without the...well, the extremities. I suppose it's easy to remember...

[nachetanya]

Honestly, a lot of the Wailing Demon Territory has morbid names. Though it makes sense for a whole region coated in miasma which would kill any human.

[halleberry]

So it's essentially meant to be a big "keep out" sign, then?

[nachetanya]

The only humans who would go there are the Six Braves... and if the fiends named parts of it they'd have the own names. So probably not quite that, but more that the mood about it is hard to keep positive.

[halleberry]

I suppose the idea of a place called the "Wailing Demon Territory" in general is disconcerting enough...

[ As she finishes off her own tea, before casting the cup aside for now. ]

Still, just the Braves? Not even any of the other Saints? That's impressive...

[nachetanya]

No other human could survive it.

[ . . . Oh, right, she should clarify that. She inhales, exhales. ] ... There are some other methods, such as the purification of the Saint of Salt, which could last for a few hours, or a few other saints who can fortify a body or spirit... ah, or some fiends, if they wanted, could be implanted into a human to inoculate them, though that would often lead to them being controlled...

In any case, humans normally can't survive in the Wailing Demon Territory because of the poison that's secreted from the Evil God, where it rests and where it will awaken from. It fills the whole area and would kill any normal human in hours. The purpose of the Crest that the Braves get [ . . . Has she shown Tsubasa that yet? She taps her chest ] is that it provides immunity to that poison.

[ She's seen it, albeit briefly, and just at an angle. It was kind of hard to miss once she was getting straddled, for better or for worse. ]

So only the Braves are allowed to have these crests? Is there a reason why only six people can have them? Other than for the sake of the legend, of course...

[nachetanya]

[ Well, Nachetanya is going to try and tug down her shirt - actually, know what, she's going to explain this while trying to take her bra off but keep the shirt on as best she can one-handed to better show the crest ]

The Crests are what marks someone as a Brave. The Goddess of Fate - the Saint of the Single Flower - cast the "petals" of her flower across time and space to go to those worthy of holding it.

[ And see, the crest itself has six petals in it ]

[ ...She'd ask if she needs some help, there, but, she doesn't want to be lewd-- ]

Ah, that makes sense, then...that explains those six sort of petalish signs, on the crest itself.

You showing me that makes me wish I had my own sort of mark to show you, from one of my encounters during Spring Break, but unfortunately, it was healed so thoroughly at the time that I don't even have a scar to show. Almost a pity, really.

[nachetanya]

Each of the petals marks a Brave. Actually, if one dies a petal will fade.

[ She answers that quickly but then - !! ]

Oh no, you were injured?

To call it an "injury" would be a bit of an understatement. It was my own fault, though; I had been a bit careless, and I had exposed myself during a fight...

Thankfully, the wound was healed completely, thanks to how regenerative a vampire's blood can be.

[nachetanya]

[ ... Oh.

... Nachetanya's eyes widen at that, actually, a little bit of fear tinging on the corners of them before she rights herself, shaking her head and busying herself more with getting the bra off.

... There. ]

Between the vampires and those hunters?

It was meant to be a one-on-one fight with Episode, the half-vampire. In exchange for a weakened version of most of a vampire's special skills, he also lacked several of the weaknesses characteristic of a vampire, and he used a massive, steel cross as a weapon. On top of that, he had the ability to conceal his presence and teleport around...

I had been observing from afar, but I had noticed a way to get around Episode's strategy of hiding himself. But when I exposed my own position to tell Araragi-kun the weak point, to give him a hint, I was targeted by Episode.

As I said. Careless.

[nachetanya]

[ . . . Wow. What a crazy life- she's one to talk, but she had pegged her for being so average.

... The bra's off. She frees it and sets it on the table. ]

And you recovered from that?

[halleberry]

Do you remember when we spoke about blood types, and universal donors? In the event that a person is losing blood at a rapid rate, they can receive a blood transfusion, to recover the blood that their body can't produce on its own. Essentially, a crude version of that is what happened with me, but the blood I was given was vampire blood, the blood of an incredibly powerful vampire notorious for her incredible regenerative abilities.

With that blood, I recovered pretty much instantly. You wouldn't even know I was wounded.

[nachetanya]

[ Mmm. ]

To that extent, huh...

[ She looks at her own finger... And then exhales. She shakes her head and ]

It's a shame I can't justify that as a reason to see you more naked, then.

[halleberry]

Again with the nakedness. I'm positive you've seen a naked female body before, Nachetanya, if only in a mirror. You're not exactly missing out on anything...

[ Had to take it there, didn't she... ]

[nachetanya]

But I've not seen yours.

[ She grinned up at the other, touching her own (Nachetanya's, that is) scarred thighs. ]
